Now that she is back as chief minster once again, Mamata Banerjee must put an end to the post-poll violence, shore up facilities to save lives hit by the raging pandemic and restore the economic health of the state.
The PIL said that every political party should understand that the common people are not taking it in good spirit, because saving lives should be the paramount objective of the government.
It is said elections were conducted in Bihar, while by-polls were held in different states in November 2020 by not consulting the Health Ministry which thereby led to violating the COVID-19 norms.
The pandemic is surely surging back, and who knows what level of infection would be detected after the poll process is over. In the end, though, the common man is the worst sufferer. He is damned if he does (engage in the poll process) and damned if he doesn’t.
Former Union Finance Minister and former senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Saturday joined Trinamool Congress just weeks ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Sinha had quit the BJP in 2018.
A plea has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking directions to the West Bengal government to provide protection to opposition leaders in the state to ensure that a free and fair Assembly election is conducted in 2021.
