The Competition Commission of India, India’s anti-trust and competition regulator, has levied a fine of Rs 936.44 crore on Google for misusing its predominance concerning its Play Store policies. Significantly, it lays down India’s first authorized view on in-app payments by OS operators such as Google and Apple.
A bunch of petitions had been filed by entities who had approached the Delhi High Court after social media platforms, such as Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, amongst others, had suspended their social media handles without any prior intimation.
The Delhi High Court refused to entertain a plea seeking directions to withhold the release of the film, The Conversion, which is alleged to depict the dilemma of religious conversions in India that occur in love marriages. The Court observed, "Provocation depends upon the mental attitude of a person.”
The plea in Delhi High Court alleges that the Delhi Police failed to take cognizance of the actions by the named publications/portals/news organizations and social media platforms, as disclosure of identity of Hathras gangrape victims is a punishable offence under Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code.
