Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has reportedly apologized to a woman who alleged she was raped in the country’s parliament by an anonymous colleague, and promised a thorough probe into the government’s workplace culture. The alleged rape was reported to the government in March 2019 by Brittany Higgins, then a 24-year old Liberal party adviser.
Higgins has alleged that a male colleague raped her in the office of Defence Minister Linda Reynolds by someone who also worked for Morrison’s ruling Liberal party. Morrison called the allegation ‘a wake-up call’ for the treatment of women in the parliament.
