South African mining firm security shoots at locals

The Mononono community in South Africa is at the receiving end of brutal force, unleashed by the private security force of mining company Ikwezi Vanadium. Seven have been seriously injured. While the company was exploring rich natural resources that this area is endowed with, local people realized that their rights were being infringed upon, because much of the mining activity was illegal and the community did not benefit. Despite court orders, National Strike Intervention Unit (NSIU), which acts as Vanadium’s private security, shot rubber bullets at the protesting locals. The role of the police as to how it failed to rescue the innocent villagers, remains a critical question.
