The Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee reported back to the apex court on Tuesday (June 12), saying that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) was not taking action about illegal constructions, despite court orders.
This was incorporated in the status report filed by the committee.
The court was hearing several pleas seeking respite from the ongoing sealing drive in New Delhi.
Significantly, the apex court had ordered the Monitoring Committee to see to the demolition of illegal constructions with SDMC in some places in South Delhi. But the SDMC did not consider the Monitoring Committee’s order saying that the amendment to the master plan has not been finalized and therefore they can’t take action.
The next hearing is on June 14.
