A special court in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday acquitted three persons and convicted one for their alleged involvement in the gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl at Hathras in 2020
The plea in Delhi High Court alleges that the Delhi Police failed to take cognizance of the actions by the named publications/portals/news organizations and social media platforms, as disclosure of identity of Hathras gangrape victims is a punishable offence under Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code.
The High Court’s verdicts have strengthened the rule of law and reminded the state government about its constitutional duties to protect people’s fundamental rights and dignity.
Politics & controversy around the Hathras tragedy takes new turns with each passing day. In a latest development, Hathras police have now framed sedition charges against the journalist from Kerala they had arrested earlier. Similar charges were also framed against three members of Campus Front of India
While the gangrape and death of a young woman in UP shocked the nation, what numbed it was the heartlessness of the police which cremated her in the dead of night and claimed that she hadn’t even been raped.
