Calcutta High Court dismisses Public Interest Litigation objecting to the transfer of five acres of land of the University of North Bengal to the Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal to establish a Hotel Management Institute
Calcutta High Court division bench allowed a PIL in Court filed by an Advocate questioning the appointment of the respondent no. 4 as Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. He has also prayed for a writ of mandamus to initiate a fresh process for appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the order of the Calcutta High Court staying criminal proceedings initiated against West Bengal Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari. The Apex Court stated that no coercive action be taken against him and that he cannot be arrested in either existing or future cases without the High Court nod.
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the inquiry proceedings into the Pegasus snooping case by a commission led by former Supreme Court judge Justice Madan B. Lokur set up by the West Bengal government.
