Video: Supreme Court to examine alternative for hanging as death penalty

During the hearing on the demand for a painless death for death row convicts, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud spoke of examining setting up an expert committee for modern methods and alternatives to hanging.

The petition challenging repeated internet shutdowns in states across India will be heard after three weeks. CJI Chandrachud said this is an all-India matter.

The Supreme Court has taken a strict stand against unlicensed weapons and said possessing arms is not a fundamental right. States have been asked to submit a report on how many cases have been registered and initiatives taken to deal with the problem.

The CBI opposed former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s bail application in the excise case. The next hearing will be on March 25.
